Here’s Why You Should Stop Taking Notes In College
Now you might be wondering if my IQ is either low or very low, but let me explain.
Most Universities now days present their class on PowerPoint or pdf slides through the projector, so this article my not be targeted at you or in general but for those specific classes. And most of the time, when the professor is done with their lecture the slides are uploaded to the university’s platform, where you can find your whole syllabus. Many students take the opportunity of that and simply don’t attend the lectures at all, especially if there was no attendance needed. Obviously that’s not the target of what i want to say but if you think you’re too smart to attend what you already going to read later then you do you, but for the rest hear me out.
If you are already going to have the material, THEN WHY ARE YOU BLINDLY COPYING ? I see so many students that look at the screen and look back down over twenty times and just writing down what they see. I used to do this before, thinking that’s the only way to show that you’re giving full attention. But that’s the keyword ; “show”. Most of this is purely aesthetic. Do you remember that one kid in school that used to come to class without even a pencil and had to ask for a spare pen, and for some reason they would get a top mark even though they seemed to be the most careless ? That’s how I feel nowadays and it feels awesome, because I stopped using notebooks or even taking my bag with me. My advice is to to only take your phone, and nothing else. I go to class with my phone and my bottle of water because staying hydrated is important. The trick is that you have to focus 100% with the professor, what they are saying and what’s on the screen. Now IF they say something that you feel is pretty important, you grab your phone and instead of opening Tiktok & Instagram like you do 90% of your day, you open your notes app and type what your professor says, and take a picture of the slide or whatever is on the board.
I personally use Google Keep & google docs since anything I write on (keep) would be instantly on my computer and I can study it on my laptop or any of my signed in devices instantly. When it comes to studying by yourself tho, you can feel free to use whatever method you want, and writing on a piece of paper always is indeed better than simply reading with your eyes. But personally i think that during those 1–2 hours in the lecture, I would much more prefere to KEEP focused…get it…Keep :D
Anyways stay focused in class rather than to write on my notebook the stuff that I will open anyways fom my laptop since it’s more convenient. And hey…I saved on you some money not to buy paper, so take this as financial advice.
Ps : Don’t take this as financial advice, I was joking-
That’s it for today have a good day :)
