Lazy Engineers are Funnier Than Professional Comedians
I have no idea why, but engineering as a whole can unironically be the funniest path a man can take, and I’m so glad I'm following that path. Imagine being so smart and good with calculations and numbers, you have this great mind and knowledge but also all on your mind is to put your feet up and watch some soccer with some beer on the side.
Also, the way engineers think and approach problems is very different from everyday normal people. To be fair that is their job which is to solve problems. But even with the simple thing in our daily life, in the house or on a road trip or in my case in the college dorm, where I had to fix a shelf once that if I didn’t and the administration saw it I would’ve been fined $150, and trust me I didn’t want that.
I didn’t have any tools, or any instructions on how to do it, only my thoughts and whatever I had to use in the room. So, instead of opening google, or YouTube both which are very accessible and free to use, I decided to simply grab a plastic knife which somehow was successful to unscrew a screw I had on the lamp I didn’t use since I took the lamp out of it and used that screw to hold the shelf back up with some tape. The lamp later that week broke down and fell since it had no support whatsoever (the screw)
Since that was also the dorm’s property and I couldn’t play around with it, I took a plastic hanger from the closet, a pair of scissors and on a white paper sheet I started calculating the length I needed to cut and which angle for the hanger plastic part I’ll extract will fit best in the lamp. That day I was going to the shop anyways so I could’ve easily just…bought a screw to replace the other one but I was determined this will work. And until today, the lamp is still there, standing strong with a piece of a thin blue plastic in the middle of it to keep it up and running.
This is one story out of many I'm sure I’ll experience as an engineer myself but also as someone who tries to solve problems. I’m just hoping I get solve more problems than I end up creating :D
